Nick Wharton · Building in public

A dude in his 40strying to make it in AI.

AI broke the content businesses I spent a decade building. Now I build apps and software with it instead. No code, no team.

Everything in one place

Everything I'm building, in one place.

YouTube Thumbnail App

Scroll-stopping thumbnails from your own photos.

Vlog / Video Editor

Cuts the mistakes, adds the motion graphics.

YouTube Uploader

Publishes with titles, chapters, tags, end screens.

AI Agents

Autonomous systems that do the work, not just chat.

This very site

Built with AI, zero code. You are looking at it.

Notes from the build

The latest from the blog.

Essays and field notes on using AI to rebuild a business, the products I'm shipping, and what's actually working.

What I build

Software I made to dig myself out.

Three apps, all built with AI and zero hand-written code. Each one started as a problem I had on my own channel. They are in beta. Get on the list to try them.

Beta

YouTube Thumbnail App

Generates scroll-stopping thumbnails from your own photos, trained on the styles that actually get clicked, like MrBeast and Pete McKenna. You upload close-ups of your face, it does the rest.

Beta

Vlog / Video Editor

Auto-edits long-form talking-head vlogs. It cuts the mistakes and retakes, then adds word-synced frosted liquid-glass motion graphics that never cover your face.

YouTube Uploader

Publishes a finished video with an optimized title, description, chapters, tags, and a thumbnail, plus a cards and end-screen checklist.

Whatever I need next

Every time something on my channel is too slow or too expensive, it becomes the next build. Come along for the ride and watch them ship.

The whole thing on YouTube

I document every build, including the parts where it breaks and the money I burn figuring it out.

How it all comes together

A thousand moving parts. One system.

What I can build for you

I learned this the expensive way. Now I build it for clients.

Ten-plus years running content businesses, then two years rebuilding with AI. The same toolkit I use on my own stuff is what I bring to your project.

AI builds

I build apps, agents, and automations with AI doing the coding. If you have a repetitive job eating your week, there is a good chance it can be turned into software.

Client websites

Dark, cinematic, scroll-driven sites like this one. Built on WordPress so you can actually run them, with the motion and polish that makes people trust you.

Automation & systems

The unglamorous machines behind a content business: publishing pipelines, content systems, and the glue that connects the tools you already pay for.

How I work

Plain English in. Working software out.

No jargon, no six-month roadmap. You describe the problem, I build the thing, we sharpen it until it earns its place.

01

We talk about the problem

Not the tech. The actual bottleneck costing you time or money. Half the time the answer is smaller and cheaper than you expect.

02

I build a working version fast

You see something real early, not a deck. AI lets me move quick, so we course-correct on the thing itself instead of arguing over a spec.

03

We tighten it together

You use it, you tell me what is off in plain English, I fix it. Same loop I run on my own apps every single week.

04

You own it and run it

It lives on tools you control, like WordPress, so you are not renting your own business back from a platform. I hand it over and show you how it works.

The machine

One Mac mini, running the whole studio.

I bought a Mac mini and it basically never sleeps. It hosts my Claude Code setup and quietly builds every app on this page, the thumbnail generator, the video editor, the uploader.

The plan is to turn these into tools I can hand to other creators. This one little box is the whole factory.

  • Always-on Claude Code host
  • Zero-code apps, shipped from one machine
  • Built to sell to creators

Who is doing this

AI broke my business. Then I learned to use it.

I spent over ten years building content businesses. A travel blog called Goats on the Road, an SEO course, a six-figure fly-fishing brand. It made real money for a long time.

Then in 2023, AI and a wave of Google updates cut most of it down. I spent two years angry at it. Now I build with it instead, apps and software I can actually sell, and I have never written a real line of code in my life.

I put the whole thing on YouTube, the wins and the screw-ups, so you can watch me either pull this off or embarrass myself trying.

Always on

While you read this, the build keeps running.

Scripts drafted, footage cut, thumbnails made, posts published. I wire each system up once, then it keeps working long after I close the laptop.
